Raiders’ Derek Carr Continues To Be Disrespected By National Media

In what looks like an annual ritual, the disrespect for Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr continues.

It has become the norm to see the Raiders take a signal-caller in every ‘early’ mock draft even though Carr has statistically been the best since Rich Gannon. It never appears to be easy for ‘4’ when it comes to earning respect. The three-time Pro Bowl quarterback led the franchise to their sole playoff appearance since 2003 back in 2016. The numbers don’t lie in the case of Carr, he’s regularly one of the more efficient quarterbacks in the NFL yet he’s continuously overlooked and seen as ‘above average.’ In fact, every offseason the Raiders are linked to a plethora of quarterbacks, Tom Brady, Marcus Mariota, and most recently, Aaron Rodgers.

If big-name NFL signal-callers aren’t enough, college prospects are linked to the Silver and Black each offseason. We all know that the team’s brass does their due diligence every offseason. This is nothing new, even if the Raiders don’t plan to draft quarterbacks, they’re possible future opponents so there’s that. As far as the 2022 NFL draft, it’s far too early to be predicting picks. However, some have Las Vegas taking a quarterback, to no one’s surprise.

Who are the Raiders drafting in 2022?

According to Ryan Wilson of CBS Sports, Las Vegas will be selecting USC Trojans quarterback Kedon Slovis at ninth overall. The fact that the team’s picking at number nine shows that the national media believes the team will be picking in the top ten. The six-foot-two sophomore quarterback has thrown 47 touchdowns and 5,423 passing yards the past two years.

“The Raiders need a lot of things — and maybe the ’21 draft class will solve some of those issues — but it’s only a matter of time before Jon Gruden succumbs to the allure of a new QB.” – Wilson on the prospect of Jon Gruden drafting a quarterback
Interestingly enough, Sporting News believes that the Raiders will also be picking in the top ten next year. Nevertheless, they believe the team’s brass will go for LSU’s cornerback, Derek Stingley Jr. We still have to wait to see how the 2021 season pans out, but make no mistake, Carr’s leading this franchise for the foreseeable future.
