Raiders Draft Spotlight: Channing Stribling

The Oakland Raiders need help at cornerback more than ever before, especially if there’s a Super Bowl run in the making. The team currently has young standouts such as David Amerson and T.J. Carrie but more quality depth’s needed; enter Michigan’s Channing Stribling.

While some mock drafts have him going in the fifth round there’s no reason Stribling can’t be an immediate contributor if put in the right situation.

At the NFL combine, Stribling had some impressive numbers such as his time for the 40-yard dash which was 4.60 seconds and rose to 114.0 inches in his broad jump. Standing at 6’1″ with such an excellent frame and speed that he’d fit nicely into the team’s defensive backfield which will be mentored this upcoming season by NFL Hall of Famer Rod Woodson (Woodson will be coaching the cornerbacks).

Lance Zierlein of NFL.com, summed it best, “There are defenses who will prefer Stribling’s physical traits and ball skills, but he will be limited by scheme fit.”

Certainly, by playing behind some excellent talent and the right scheme, Stribling would be a welcomed addition that could take his time developing and perhaps grow into a larger role over time with proper coaching and the right amount of playing time.
