Derek Carr

Raiders’ Derek Carr already off to a “Hall of Fame” start

Most in Raider Nation by now are aware of the fact that Derek Carr’s off to an excellent start but trailing Dan Marino? Amazing.

Of the many young quarterbacks to stand out in the NFL the last three seasons, one name stands out above the rest; that name would be the ever humble Derek Carr of the Oakland Raiders.

And as Evert Geerlings of the Raiders PR team recently Tweeted out, Carr is right behind NFL Hall of Famer Dan Marino.

The Raiders drafted Carr in the 2nd round of the 2014 NFL draft, and since entering the league, he has started 47 games. In Carr’s first two seasons he was able to throw for 53 combined touchdowns which rank him 2nd all-time behind Hall of Fame quarterback Dan Marino, who had 68 career touchdowns his first two seasons in the league. Carr has continued to show improvement in the league every year, but after breaking his fibula during the Week 16 game against the Indianapolis Colts, could that injury linger into the upcoming season?

The Raiders had experienced quarterback problems in the past as they had 17 quarterbacks at one point start at least one game since 2002. With the team trying to continue the new found momentum in the franchise which picked up in 2016, the team decided that Carr will be wearing the Silver and Black until 2022 after he recently signed a 5 yr, $125M extension.

No one’s saying that Carr will be in Canton, Ohio when it’s all said and done, but the fact that he’s off to such a great start makes Raider Nation look forward to the next 10 to 15 years.
