The Oakland Raiders were defeated by the Dallas Cowboys by a score of 24-20 in this highly anticipated third preseason game.
After the Raiders offense opened up with a three and out, it was Dallas who nabbed the first points of the contest going up 3-0 on a 42-yard Dan Bailey field goal, but the Oakland offense was quick to respond. Raiders quarterback Derek Carr orchestrated a 10-play 81-yard drive that culminated in a beautifully thrown 17-yard touchdown strike to wide receiver Cordarrelle Patterson.
The Cowboys would bounce back with help from the Raiders struggles in coverage against opposing tight ends, as Dak Prescott found Jason Witten from 10 yards out for a touchdown.
Prescott impressed as he completed 11 of his 14 passes for 113 yards and a touchdown.
Witten led all Dallas pass catchers in the game with 6 receptions for 74-yards and one touchdown reception.
These two prolific offenses continued to trade blows as Carr marched the Raiders down the field and connected with wide receiver Amari Cooper on a 48-yard go-route, resulting in a touchdown just minutes before half time.
Cooper would end the day with 4 catches, 74-yards and found pay dirt once.
Despite Carr only appearing in the first half, he managed to connect with seven different receiving targets, going 13 for 17 for 144 yards and two touchdowns to boot, putting his MVP caliber talents on full display.
In the second half of action, Oakland’s second and third team offense struggled to get anything going, and four of the five Raider drives in the second half ended in a Marquette King punt.
After back-to-back three and outs for Dallas, Cowboys quarterback Cooper Rush was intercepted by Raiders linebacker LaTroy Lewis for six points the other way.
To the Raiders dismay, the Cowboys came surging back, scoring two fourth quarter touchdowns through the air courtesy of Cooper Rush. Rush would torch the Oakland secondary going 12 for 13 on the day with 115 yards and two passing touchdowns to complete the come from behind victory.
The Raiders will travel back to the Bay for their final preseason bout as they host the Seattle Seahawks on August 31st meanwhile, the Cowboys are scheduled to play in Houston versus the Texans, however, due to Hurricane Harvey, the game is likely to be rescheduled.
