As the rumors of Jon Gruden making a return to coaching the Raiders continue to dominate NFL discussions, there is more fuel being added to the fire.

Jon Gruden Confirms Interest in Raiders Head Coaching Vacancy

Jerry McDonald of the Bay Area News Group reports that Gruden informed over the phone that, “My understanding is they’re interviewing candidates this week and they’re going to let everybody know sometime early next week or whenever they make their decision.”

According to many sources, it is already clear that Gruden indeed will once again be the head coach of the Silver and Black, however, there still is standard protocol that must first take place. The ‘Rooney Rule’ is still in effect and the Raiders organization is required to interview at least one minority candidate for the coaching vacancy.

Gruden also confirmed to the Bay Area News Group that he is interested in the East Bay gig, saying, “Well, I think I am being considered, yes. I hope I’m a candidate.”

Gruden last coached the Raiders in 2001 before being traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers where he was relieved of coaching duties in 2008 and has since been a commentator for ESPN’s coverage of the NFL.

As it stands now, all signs point to Gruden making a return to the Oakland sidelines to coach the beloved Raiders once again.
