Degeneration R: Taking on the NFL Lines Week 14

These lines are from the Bovada sportsbook as of 12/03/2018.

Record Last Week:

Rory: 6-10

Chris: 7-9

Record Year To Date: We stink.

Rory: 86-98-8

Chris: 90-94-8

JAC @ TEN -4.5

Rory: Having Cody Kessler under center does not fill me with confidence at all. However, the Jaguar defense completely flummoxed the Colts last week and they can easily do it again this week. All they have to do is lose by a field goal.

Chris: Cody Kessler? Nah, I like my chances with the Titans. Tennessee also NEEDS this win to have any chance at the playoffs.

ATL @ GB -6

Rory: What a disaster for Green Bay last week at home. Interim head coach Philbin will likely do nothing to radically change anything. This should be an epic shootout and those kinds of games usually stay tight. Falcons keep it close.

Chris: I have picked the Falcons way too many times this season. I thought they would be way better than they have been. I think the Packers rally together this week and win at home.

NYJ @ BUF -3.5

Rory: This game is stupid. So roll with the Bills because they are at home and the Bills Mafia will put you through a table if you don’t.

Chris: The Bills defense is legit! I think they have another solid performance.

NE @ MIA +8

Rory: Plus eight at home is legitimately tempting, but the Patriots have found themselves and are rolling into the playoffs. Even away from Foxborough, the Patriots continue to cover week after week.

Chris: The Patriots will extinguish any hopes the Dolphins may have about making the playoffs in what I think will be a blowout.

NYG @ WAS +4

Rory: The Redskins have gotten more quarterbacks killed than the 1970s Buccaneers. Regardless of how good that defense is, there is just no rational reason to think the Giants won’t win by 5. And Chris is doing his best Harley Race impression.

Chris: There is no way on God’s green Earth that I will pick Mark Butt Fumble Sanchez. Give me the G-Men.

IND @ HOU +5

Rory: After being humiliated by the Jaguars last week, the Colts should bounce back and put up a competitive game. 5 points is just enough to entice me to take the Colts on the road.

Chris: I think the Texans extend this ridiculous win streak to 10 games this week!

BAL @ KC -7

Rory: Yes grasshopper. Chiefs is all you need in Missouri.

Chris: “Never bet against the Chiefs at home.” I remind myself of this every time they have a home game.

NO @ TB +8

Rory: It seems this week is chock full of good teams who disappointed last week and should clap back strong this week. The Saints are no different.

Chris: Even though the Saints came out flat last week, I think they bounce back strong. I see them putting up 35 or more.

CAR @ CLE +1.5

Rory: Baker Mayfield is going to be a streaky player and until further notice the Browns will be a week to week proposition. Going against the Panthers, Cleveland matches up well and they have the athletes to potentially slow down the Panther run and short pass game.

Chris: The Panthers are like the Falcons for me, in that I seem to pick them way too much. However, I’ll make that mistake again as they play the Browns this week, who looked awful a week ago.

DEN @ SF +6

Rory: Here is another game that really is not about any level of faith in the favorite. It is more about the dysfunction of the underdog. Denver should coast here.

Chris: The 49ers have areas of there team that show tremendous amounts of promise, and others that are a joke. Even though Emmanuel Sanders is likely done for the season, I see the Broncos pulling this one out.

CIN @ LAC -14

Rory: O Bengals, how far thou hath fallen. Chargers charge lead by Phillip Rivers and his absurd limo that he commutes in.

Chris: The Chargers are an absolute force right now and that pains me as a Raiders fan. As a fan of football, it is great to see, and Rivers is playing some of the best football of his career. But just when anyone thinks they know anything about football something crazy happens. I’m picking the Chargers, but don’t be surprised if this goes the other way.

PHI @ DAL -4

Rory: The NFC East tends to produce some pretty compelling football. Carson Wentz has had struggles this season at the helm of the Super Bowl champs. If nothing else, the Cowboys are all about long possessions and keeping the game low scoring. That should produce a tight game and Eagles cover.

Chris:  I’m picking the Cowboys from here on out until they show me otherwise. They are red hot and keep using Amari Cooper, which is a tad painful as a Raider fan, but my fantasy football team could use it for the playoffs!

PIT @ OAK +10.5

Rory: There are a couple of teams you can count on every year to go through a weird stint where they just keep stepping on rakes and having lumps beat into their foreheads. The Steelers are one of those teams and the Raiders are actually looking like a football team.

Chris: The Raiders showed they can hang with the big boys last week putting up 33 against the Chiefs. I don’t see the Raiders winning necessarily, but I think it’s a close game.

DET @ AZ +2.5

Rory: Mathew Stafford will always be a dangerous quarterback to keep your eyes on. He has plenty of weapons to produce serious offensive numbers for the Lions. They are not favored by much and since I think they win on a last minute field goal, give me the blue kitties.

Chris: The Cardinals beat the Packers on the road! Crazy. I think the Lions are falling and falling fast, and I see this game playing out as a poorly played one that favors the Cards in the end.

LAR @ CHI +3

Rory: Chris’ logic makes total sense. The Rams defense can also dominate the Bear’s offense and since I think McVey is a significantly better mind between the two head coaches, I am putting my eggs in the Rams basket.

Chris:  I like the Bears defense at home in the cold. I see a big day for Mack and that D-line.

MIN @ SEA -3.5

Rory: The 12th man is legit and when the Seahawks are good then it comes alive. However, this should be a close game and having more than a field goal to bet on makes me lean towards the Vikings.

Chris:  I really think the Seahawks are coming alive as of late. I see them taking care of business at home to keep afloat in playoff contention.

Where we disagree: JAC @ TEN -4.5, ATL @ GB -6, IND @ HOU +5, CAR @ CLE +1.5, PHI @ DAL -4, DET @ AZ +2.5, LAR @ CHI +3, MIN @ SEA -3.5
