The 2000s All-Raiders Offense: Wide Receivers and Tight Ends

In the last article, we took a look at quarterbacks, running backs and fullbacks. Now we will exclusively look at the following Raiders positions: wide receivers and tight ends. The 2000s All-Raiders Offense: Wide Receivers and Tight EndsThe other offensive and defense positions can be seen in the articles with the same title (this is two of six). Of course there is a lot of ambiguity when it comes to determining this, so if you disagree or would swap one player out for another, feel free to comment your opinion! Let’s take a stroll down memory lane and get the conversation going.

Reminder: this is exclusively for what players did as Raiders from 2000 to 2019. Thus, there may be players who had a great career but aren’t on this list because the end of their careers or tenure with the Raiders was in the early 2000s.

Wide Receiver: Tim Brown

This one is a slam-dunk as Brown leads the organization in just about every receiving category and by a wide margin. While the 2000’s were towards the end of Brows career, he was still productive with 3,790 yards and 24 touchdowns. There really shouldn’t be any debate about this one.

Wide Receiver: Jerry Porter

While Porter isn’t exactly a household name, especially when compared to other Raider greats at the position (Brown, Rice, Biletnikoff, etc.), Porter ranks eighth all time in receiving yards and 10th in receiving touchdowns. The former West Virginia Mountaineer was one of the most productive wide receivers in the 2000’s for Oakland.

Tight End: Zach Miller When talking about some of the Raider greats, Miller often gets over looked. Likely because he played during what is considered one the lowest points for the franchise. At times, it felt like Miller was the only player on the roster capable of catching a pass from he who we shall not speak of. Even during the tough times, Miller was able to make a Pro Bowl and that is what puts him on this list.

Honorable Mentions

Wide Receiver: Jerry Rice

If it weren’t for Porter’s statistical success and longevity as a Raider, Rice would be another slam-dunk for this list. Considered one of the “G.O.A.T.s” of the NFL, Rice revived his career at 39 years old in the early 2000’s with Oakland, further proving why he is one of the best to ever lace ’em up.

Wide Receiver: Amari Cooper

Right now this might not be popular with Raider Nation, but if you’re going to include Rice as a Raider great, you have to include Cooper. Below is a comparison of the two receiver’s stats as Raiders.

Rice: 54 games, 3,286 yards (60.9 yards/game) and 18 touchdowns

Cooper: 52 games, 3,183 yards (61.2 yards/game) and 19 touchdowns

Be sure to comment below with any players you feel should be included!
