The NFL Draft came and went for the Las Vegas Raiders as general manager Mike Mayock once again addressed several needs. With the dust settling, NFL executives from around the league shared insight regarding the Raiders and their future, particularly Aaron Rodgers.
It would be premature to grade the Raiders 2020 draft class right now, but the fact is that Mayock addressed almost every deficiency. If the team expected to make any noise this season, it was imperative Mayock hit it out of the park with his selections. Even the selection of Ohio State cornerback Damon Arnette, which some have already declared a reach, was a solid addition.

Here We Go Again…
Quarterback Derek Carr now has an arsenal of weapons, tight end Darren Waller and running back Josh Jacobs, Mayock drafted Henry Ruggs III, Bryan Edwards, and Lynn Bowden Jr. Assuming Carr doesn’t botch this 2020 season, he’ll grow and develop chemistry with these new additions. There were two notions brought up by NFL executives recently, the first one is whether the Raiders have realized Carr doesn’t elevate those around him, rather he needs weapons to shine.
“Does the quarterback make the receiver or does the receiver make the quarterback?” an evaluator asked. “The Raiders are trying to get receivers to make their quarterback look good. Cleveland tried it with Baker Mayfield. You can say Dallas has done it with Dak Prescott.”
Aaron Rodgers? The Second Notion..
Aaron Rodgers in Silver and Black would cause a meltdown for Raider Nation, Carr detractors would salivate at the possibility of teaming him up with this much offensive talent. Meanwhile, Carr supporters would be devastated, albeit this notion seems like a stretch. Two things would have to happen for this to even be possible, first as mentioned before, Carr would have to regress to the point of being benched and second, Green Bay drafting Jordan Love signifying they have their future quarterback. An NFL executive teased that if the latter is true, “The Raiders’ weaponry could be appealing to a quarterback accustomed to playing in recent years with a solid offensive line, but just one upper-tier wideout and nothing dynamic at tight end.”
For now, this is all speculation as even the highest and most connected NFL executives don’t know what Mayock and Jon Gruden really have in mind. For now, fans and executives alike will be keeping an eye on the Raiders.
