Does a different opinion on quarterback Derek Carr exist amongst the top of Las Vegas Raiders brass? One national NFL personality says there is.
If you don’t like reading about Carr being criticized or any sort of debate on whether he’s this or that, then do yourself a favor and stop. Carr’s biggest supporters live and die by their narrative that the quarterback isn’t going anywhere, and they may be right. That much has been established after the events of the last two offseasons, especially this year. Many thought Tom Brady would end up being in Silver and Black or that the Raiders would draft a signal-caller. Technically, the second notion came true since Lynn Bowden Jr. did play quarterback but we won’t go there. Alas, here we are in August, and Carr is entrenched as the starting quarterback with Marcus Mariota playing second fiddle, for now.
However, NFL Media’s Mike Silver recently shed light on an interesting circumstance, apparently, at the top of the Raiders organization, there’s some divide when it comes to Carr. Silver elaborated further going as far as saying the following:
“My understanding in that building is that Jon Gruden is more staunchly behind Derek Car than maybe people at the very top of the organization.” -Silver on Carr’s apparent status

No One Knows Where The Raiders Stand
This is where it gets complicated, Raider Nation. It’s entirely possible that Silver is right, that whoever gave him such insider information has witnessed the top of Raiders brass not happy with Carr. It’s also possible that Silver might’ve been fed hogwash. We’ve seen time and time again how Gruden manipulates the media while achieving his end-goals. He did this with Khalil Mack and Amari Cooper, to an extent he did the same with Reggie McKenzie. I don’t necessarily recall Gruden shedding tears when McKenzie was relieved leading to Mike Mayock’s hiring. That said, it’s also possible Gruden truly does believe Carr is the answer. Other than a few remaining players from previous draft classes, the quarterback is one of the last men standing.
We won’t know the real answer until football is being played. If Carr does indeed struggle, the rumors will come back with a fury. In a social media-centric time where everyone with a platform claims to have “insider” knowledge, no one really knows what owner Mark Davis, Mayock, and Gruden really think of Carr. In a league defined by results, Carr’s fate is ultimately in his own hands, whether there’s “support” behind him or not.
