Plenty of players for the Las Vegas Raiders stood out at NFL training camp, but who did head coach Jon Gruden say was the most improved? Well as far as the offense is concerned, the answer may shock Raider Nation.
NFL Training Camp came and went for the Silver and Black, many individuals took advantage of the time and impressed the coaches. Players such as cornerback Damon Arnette and kicker Daniel Carlson are looking strong going into the 2020 campaign. But for Gruden, one offensive player stood out the most, wide receiver, Zay Jones.
Hard to believe? It should be, all things considered, the Raiders did, after all, revamp the wide receiver corps. Recognizing the unit was severely devoid of talent, Raiders brass drafted Henry Ruggs III and Bryan Edwards. In addition, the team added veteran wide receiver Nelson Agholor. It appeared the Raiders would be using Ruggs along with Tyrell Williams and Hunter Renfrow as the top three options. However, things have changed in a short span of time for the Raiders. Williams is out and this means Edwards could become an instant starter. As a result, Jones in theory, will see a bump up the depth chart, which means he’ll get plenty of snaps.

Jones Showed the Raiders He Means Business
“Zay Jones is probably the most improved player on the offense,” Gruden said Wednesday. “He’s really done a great job of getting himself quicker, getting himself in premier shape and faster. His stamina his something I marvel at; this guy can run all day and he’s playing with a lot more confident.”
While the opportunity that Jones now has could be due to circumstances, its not that cut and dry. Jones worked hard this offseason to put himself in prime position if he were to have been called upon. It now seems he’ll be getting that chance, and by being in the best shape he’s been, he can make the most of it. It seems coach Gruden seems to believe this as well since he’s been observing him all camp.
For now, we’re getting a better idea of how the Raiders passing attack will look like in Week 1. For Jones, he’ll see snaps so it’ll be up to him to make the most of it.
