Raiders’ Week 2 Fantasy Football: Avoid Their Rookie WRs and Other Tips

Week 1 showed Las Vegas Raiders fans a lot of interesting things when it comes to the fantasy football profiles of some Raiders’ players. Running back Josh Jacobs showed out with an insane stat sheet headlined by three touchdowns and nearly 100 yards on the ground. Derek Carr threw the pigskin all over the field, and Henry Ruggs III showed why the team drafted him. Overall, the offense showed some promise when it comes to fantasy football. Let’s take a look at the fantasy outlook for this week for some Raiders players.

The Raiders have Fantasy Football potential in their offense

Josh Jacobs

After Josh Jacobs’ 30+ point performance last week, is this even a question? The Saints have a solid defense and they are capable of stopping the run. However, we’ve seen Jacobs put up quality numbers against much better defenses before. The Saints held Ronald Jones to 3.9 yards per carry on 17 attempts, but Jacobs is a much better back. Moreover, the Raiders have a much better offensive line than the Bucs do. Jacobs likely won’t put up three touchdowns again, but he’s going to see plenty of work early and often. Jacobs needs to be in your lineup in Week 2.

Derek Carr

You should start Carr this week solely because of the matchup he will have. The Saints’ offense has a ton of weapons, and even with Michael Thomas missing action this week, they shouldn’t have a problem scoring. After all, the Raiders just allowed 30 points to Carolina, so there’s a very good chance the Raiders will be playing from behind come Monday night. That would lead Carr to pick up a lot of garbage time yards, so he is a safe start in deep leagues.

The Raiders rookie wide receivers

You should stay away from Ruggs and fellow rookie wide receiver Bryan Edwards this week. The Saints did a terrific job of containing Mike Evans and Chris Godwin last week. They allowed just 81 yards on seven catches between both combined. Edwards only saw one reception in his first appearance last week, and this matchup just doesn’t suit him well. Ruggs looked good last week before his injury, but after coming back into the game, the Raiders seemed reluctant to get him the ball. The Saints effectively shut down one of the best wide receiver duos in the league last week, so I don’t expect these rookies to produce too much.

Overall, it’s a decent fantasy outlook this week. Carr and Jacobs produced well last week, and I expect them to have quality games this week as well. Ruggs and Edwards will likely struggle this week, but I wouldn’t be too worried because I expect them to pick it up in the next few weeks. Here’s my Raiders fantasy advice for Week 2:

Josh Jacobs: Start

Derek Carr: Start

Henry Ruggs: Sit

Bryan Edwards: Sit
