Raiders WR Henry Ruggs Unable To Find Endzone in Cleveland

Las Vegas Raiders rookie Henry Ruggs III was unable to find the endzone versus the Cleveland Browns this past Sunday, though neither did most of his fellow receivers.

By now, everyone knows Ruggs has not lit up the scoreboard or stat sheet, but this has been due to a few different reasons. One is that he could use some more looks on a consistent basis from quarterback Derek Carr. The Alabama standout has only been targeted seven times in the last two games, and the most targets he’s seen was five, back in Week 1. Missing games due to injury also hindered his ability to develop chemistry with Carr. Last Sunday was arguably the worst game of Ruggs’ young career, but relax, no one is calling him a bust, we’re just pointing out what happened. The terrible weather in Cleveland, as well as some terrible officiating, hindered the Raiders passing attack altogether, so Ruggs definitely gets a pass on this one.

Bust talk aside, Pro Football Focus reminded Raider Nation via Twitter that Ruggs was unable to find the endzone.

Will Raiders WR Ruggs Score Again At Some Point in 2020?

Week 5 was the last time that Ruggs scored a touchdown, coincidentally, his best game in the NFL. Looking back at  Sunday’s game, Ruggs did catch a beautiful would-be-touchdown pass by Carr. Unfortunately, the catch was overturned as the referee decided that Ruggs’ feet didn’t stay inbounds. Be that as it may, Ruggs was quiet in the game save for that overturned catch. By the time the whistle blew, Ruggs only had two catches for eight yards.

It’s obvious that Ruggs’ presence opens up the Raiders offense due to his speed, this leads to opportunities for others. PFF grades Ruggs at 58.9 through eight weeks of football, though again, keep in mind that he has missed time. Perhaps in Sunday’s sunny weather, Ruggs can find the endzone versus the Los Angeles Chargers.
