Raiders May Have Their WR Corps At Full Strength vs Chargers

Injuries have been a common theme for the Las Vegas Raiders in 2020. They have seen almost half of their starters miss games due to lesions this year and have to plan as they go. Although they are still missing key players such as right tackle Trent Brown, the Silver and Black may have their full wide receiver corps at their disposal against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 9.

Bryan Edwards could return to the lineup in Week 9

The Raiders drafted Bryan Edwards with one of their three third-round picks in 2020. The South Carolina product quickly stood out in training camp and received praise from his teammates. Quarterback Derek Carr said Edwards reminded him of a former teammate at Fresno State, Davante Adams. Furthermore, the rookie wideout got compared to former star wide receiver Anquan Boldin from every corner on social media.

Edwards didn’t disappoint and quickly showed his playmaking prowess. In three games with the Silver and Black, he hauled in five catches for 99 yards. While he didn’t have a featured role on offense, he made the most of his targets. Also, he showed he was a willing blocker when he was on the field. Alas, he sustained an ankle injury in Week 3 and has been out since then.

One encouraging piece of news heading into Week 9 is that Edwards has practiced on back-to-back days without restrictions. On Wednesday, the rookie receiver looked really good in ability drills and the team upgraded him to full participant on Thursday according to Tashan Reed of The Athletic.

If Edwards is partaking in team practices, he could play against the Chargers and the Raiders wide receiver unit would be in optimal shape. No wideout besides Edwards showed up on the team’s Injury Report, which means that the team could open up their offense.

The Raiders would surely want to have Brown and guard Richie Incognito back in the lineup. However, it may take a bit longer for them to join the team. In the meantime, the Silver and Black should be excited about the possibility of having Edwards back soon.
