The Raiders lost a heartbreaker at home against Kansas City on Sunday night. Despite not picking up the win, there was a lot to be positive about. Here are some initial reactions to the game.Â
The Raiders quarterback is elite
Carr was DEALING on Sunday night. One could argue that he only really missed on one or two throws all game. For the second time this year, he went toe to toe with Pat Mahomes. All year, ‘DC4’ has proven that he is really good. After Sunday night, it is difficult to discern him from the top quarterbacks in the league. He has the throwing talent. His pre-snap work is almost Brady-esque, and we have seen his ability to improvise in 2020.
The Raiders quarterback has risen to the occasion late in games, time and time again. Oh, and by the way, he has never had a high-end number one receiver. At this point, he is arguably a top-five quarterback in the league. You could honestly make a case for him ahead of anyone not named Mahomes, Wilson, or Rodgers.

Brentson Buckner >>> Rod Marinelli
On Mahomes’ game-winning throw, a lot of attention has been paid to safety Johnathan Abram being out of position. However, do not overlook the mess upfront. The Chiefs quarterback was free to roam wherever he pleased for as long as he pleased while the four Raiders defensive linemen were practically tripping over each other as they all converged on the center. On several occasions, there were defenders shoulder to shoulder in the same gap.
This is a serious question, does Marinelli know what a rush lane is? Also, why is defensive end Maxx Crosby seemingly being allowed to just totally ignore any containment responsibility? Maliek Collins, who was signed to a large contract partly because of his connection to Marinelli, had another dud of a game. It is beginning to feel more and more like Buckner was replaced, not because of merit, but because of personal connections.
Brandon Parker is Competent
I still will not go so far as to say he is good, or even starting caliber. However, I do now believe that he belongs in the NFL. I have a long track record of saying the contrary and I am ready to eat crow. Parker looked capable in place of Sam Young, who replaced Trent Brown, who may or may not still exist (Did he ever play? Or was that a dream? At this point, who can remember?).
Parker still does not look polished enough to start full time, but he appears ready to be a reliable swing tackle and spot starter. I never thought that would happen, but I love having my doubts proven wrong.
