Would the Las Vegas Raiders actually part ways with quarterback Derek Carr? According to one writer, it would be in their best interest to do so.
No way the Raiders move Carr to the Patriots, right?
Matt Vautour of Masslive.com recently shared a prediction regarding the 2021 offseason. Brace yourselves, as if Raider Nation doesn’t already hate the Patriots enough, but the thought of losing Carr to them? Vautour forecasts that scenario for New England and head coach Bill Belichick.
The Patriots quarterback in 2021 will be Derek Carr. Matt Stafford will cost too much and the Jets will keep Sam Darnold. The Raiders will choose Marcus Mariota, who is cheaper and will eventually release Carr allowing the Patriots to buy low on an underrated quarterback.
Mariota is cheaper, yes, but the Raiders offense has had one of its most efficient seasons in recent memory. Gruden’s power running game combined with Carr’s calculating accuracy has been one of the few positives this year. In fact, Carr’s numbers reflect that he isn’t the problem with the Silver and Black right now.
He’s thrown for 25 touchdowns and 3,732 yards this year while maintaining a 67.6 completion rate. It would be an unlikely scenario that the Raiders move on from Carr and keep Mariota then draft a quarterback in April. Nevertheless, with Gruden at the helm, who really knows what the Raiders are doing.

Before you punch your computer monitor
No one’s claiming that the Silver and Black will be parting ways with Carr, it’s simply being floated as a prediction. In all likelihood, head coach Jon Gruden is going to ride out this tenure with Carr. Why would he part ways now after all the conjecture that he was previously trying to change signal-callers?
It’s plausible that Gruden and all of Raiders brass liked what they saw from Marcus Mariota recently. However, was that sample enough to convince them that Mariota could be ‘the man’ moving forward?
