The lack of a consistent pass rush was one of the biggest deficiencies the Las Vegas Raiders had in 2020. Tulane’s Cameron Sample could help them fix that and provide a nice boost if available.
By now, the struggles the Raiders had to generate pressure upfront in 2020 are well documented. The production from all their defensive ends was mediocre at best. While there were positive signs, such as Clelin Ferrell’s progression, it just wasn’t enough.
Tulane’s Cameron Sample is an EDGE defender that could help the Raiders’ defensive line. Let’s take a closer look at this 2021 draft prospect and what he could bring to the Silver and Black.

Cameron Sample can bring a motor to The Raiders
The six-foot-three, 280-pound defensive end played for Tulane these past four years and compiled an impressive track record. He accumulated 91 solo tackles, 20.5 tackles for a loss, 10.5 sacks, and seven passes defensed. Even if you’d like to discount Sample’s production due to the conference he plays in, those numbers are solid. Pro Football Focus recently broke down Sample’s snaps at Tulane for his senior year. He played on 370 snaps in pass coverage and 340 against the run.
Overall, Sample has improved substantially each year, according to PFF. His overall defensive grades made significant jumps each season since his freshman year, 61.8, 67.3, 80.7, and 89.9, respectively. Playing in the American Athletic Conference will devalue Sample’s production but make no mistake, he’s an underrated prospect. His PFF grades in his senior year are excellent, 90.4 for pass rush and 84.0 against the run.
Watching Sample’s film, you can see that even though he’s flying under the radar, he deserves a serious look. His recognition skills and instincts are on full display, especially in stopping the run. A category that the Raiders need to desperately improve on next season. Sample explodes off the line and doesn’t stop with that motor of his until he’s on top of the quarterback.
