Raiders 2020 Rewind: OL Denzelle Good Became Key Cog Upfront

The injury bug wasn’t kind to the Las Vegas Raiders’ offensive line in 2020. However, offensive tackle Denzelle Good stepped up when the Silver and Black needed him and helped stabilize the unit.

Denzelle Good answered the call when the Raiders needed him

Right tackle Trent Brown sustained a calf injury in the season opener and Good took his place in the lineup. He played reasonably well considering he hadn’t played the position in a while. However, he didn’t stay there long and switched to left guard once Richie Incognito suffered a torn Achilles.

Good started 14 games and played on 89 percent of the team’s total snaps on offense. Although the dropoff in talent between Incognito and Good was noticeable, the latter stood his ground well and the Raiders’ offensive line didn’t miss a beat. Per Pro Football Focus, ’71’ gave up just two sacks and seven hits and was an asset in the running game.

What’s next for Denzelle Good?

The Raiders are $7 million over the cap and will need to make a few cuts to get out of the red. Incognito will count $5.6 million towards the cap in 2021 but they can release him and pocket that amount. He will be 38 this year and missed most of the 2020 season, which makes him a prime candidate to get cut.

Meanwhile, Good is set to hit the open market and Las Vegas should consider bringing him back. He’s younger than Incognito and could be significantly cheaper. Last season, he made $2.5 million on a one-year extension but should see a raise after his performance in 2020.

It will be up to the Raiders to re-sign him or let him hit the open market. However, they have many roster holes to fill, and bringing Good back would give them one less to worry about.
