Raiders Prospect Spotlight: North Carolina WR Dyami Brown

With the loss of wide receiver Nelson Agholor, the Las Vegas Raiders could use another deep threat to play across from Henry Ruggs III. Although they added former Buffalo Bills wide receiver John Brown, he will be 31 this season and is coming off an injury-filled season. Luckily for the Silver and Black, a draft prospect similar to Agholor will be available to them. This player is North Carolina’s Dyami Brown.

In his final season at North Carolina, Brown recorded 55 catches for 1,099 yards and eight touchdowns. After averaging almost 20 yards per catch, Brown enters the draft as one of its premier deep threats. One of the areas where Brown compares well to Nelly is his ability to “stack” defensive backs. Here is a video of Agholor doing it for reference.

That ability to beat the defender and then relocate the route slightly so that he is almost running it on top of the defender is top tier intelligent route running. Here is a clip of Brown doing the same thing.

What can Brown do for the Dyami Raiders?

“Stacking” the defender is something all great down the field threats are good at. In addition to this, Brown has great hands, almost never dropping the ball. At six-foot-one and 185 pounds, Brown has a nice build to compliment his down-field skillset.  While he’s not perfect, his run-after-catch ability could be better, he would be a valuable asset in Jon Gruden’s offense.

Brown is projected to be picked on Day 2 and looks like a second-round pick. Should he be available in the third round, where the Raiders have two picks, they would be wise to select him. Maybe he could even wear “84” so Raider fans could finally wear those Antonio Brown jerseys.
