Raiders Still Don’t Have Clear Favorite For 17th Pick With Draft Days Away

The 2021 NFL draft is now literally a couple of days away but there’s no clear favorite as to whom the Las Vegas Raiders will pick at number 17.

You have probably gone over many different mock scenarios by fans and publications alike with draft coverage ramping up. As for the Raiders, just about every single scenario has been showcased. One popular example is Las Vegas playing it safe and selecting a right tackle prospect with the 17th pick. Christian Darrisaw, Teven Jenkins, and Samuel Cosmi have all been floated around. Considering the shoes that need to be filled with Trent Brown gone, any of those three players would make sense. A less popular possibility is Mike Mayock and Jon Gruden going cornerback in the first round, perhaps Caleb Farley.

When it comes to the Silver and Black, trying to predict which route they’ll take on draft night is impossible. They’ve consistently shown they will go against conventional wisdom and pick whoever they please. An obvious example was Clemson defensive end Clelin Ferrell, let’s be honest, no one saw that pick coming. This doesn’t mean that Raider Nation should expect a repeat of that situation. Rather, they should be prepared to have their mocks blown up. If you’re a gambler, the picture’s even murkier. Adam Hill of the Las Vegas Review-Journal recently took a look at the gambling odds in Sin City.

What do the odds say for the Raiders?

Hill reported that there’s no clear favorite on the betting board with Westgate sportsbook posting odds. There are eight players listed with all of them having odds of 12-1 to be selected by the Raiders. Interestingly enough, as of Tuesday, four tackles make up the list, which could be an early indicator for Thursday night.

“Tackles Christian Darrisaw, Alijah Vera-Tucker, Dillon Radunz, and Teven Jenkins are part of the group at +1,200.”

Kwity Paye, Christian Barmore, and Trevon Moehrig also helped shape the rest of the list. Any of the latter three would help new defensive coordinator Gus Bradley in his first season at the helm. For now, all we can do is continue to keep an eye on the odds as Day 1 of the draft inches closer.

  1. Fill Trent Brown shoes? he was never there so it will be easy. No one knows what any teams are doing as a sure pick.
