Unlike the “questionable” call the Las Vegas Raiders made with their first-round pick, there was nary a negative word with the Silver & Black’s second-round choice, TCU’s Trevon Moehrig.
While many were cheeky regarding Alex Leatherwood taking No. 17, trading up to snare Moehrig was seen as a prudent maneuver by the Raiders. Las Vegas must’ve been screaming “Blimey!” in the draft room when Moehrig was still on the board. Obviously, the Raiders’ brain trust wanted their man and they got him.
An absolute sneak thief of a safety, Moehrig brings with him the ability and pedigree of a game-changer on the back end. This young lad will drive opposing quarterbacks bonkers with his penchant to take the ball away and make tackles close to or even behind the line of scrimmage.
Raiders will need to refine Moehrig
There needs to be some refinement in his game as his tackling needs something proper — he’ll go for a big hit and not even bring down his man — but his ability to see, track and make a play on the ball is something truly bloody absent in the Raiders secondary. Moehrig makes the unit less of a muppet, bruv.
