WR Zay Jones On Returning To Raiders: ‘Why Not?’

Las Vegas Raiders wide receiver Zay Jones decided to return to the Silver and Black despite a crowded unit.

The wide receiver’s room for head coach Jon Gruden is pretty crowded ahead of training camp. Several additions were made this offseason, John Brown essentially replacing Nelson Agholor was one. The team also added to the position via undrafted free agents such as Dillon Stoner. Nevertheless, Jones decided to come back to Las Vegas, stating the Raiders are a great football team and organization. Recently sitting down with Erin Coscarelli of Raiders.com, Jones reflected on his decision.

Jones wants to be the best version of himself for the Raiders

Jones has often been seen building rapport and chemistry with quarterback Derek Carr in the offseason. Who could forget the two connecting in a local Las Vegas park last year? Unfortunately, his production has yet to match the work he’s put in the offseason. Be that as it may, Jones sounds as confident as ever, believing that his familiarity with the offense combined with all the added speed, will make this an explosive offense.

Playing for Jon Gruden is… a lot of fun!

When Jones was asked about what it’s like to play for ‘Chucky,’ the wideout made it clear that it’s fun. On top of that, Jones alluded to the passion that Gruden brings day in and day out. More importantly, Jones credits Gruden for reigniting a fire within him, to have a love for the game once again, as he put it. Essentially, Jones admits that before coming to the Raiders, playing football had become a job. While he sang Gruden’s praises when it came to the passion, he admits that the same passion he speaks of will get him yelled at occasionally.

Regardless of how you feel about Jones, it does appear he’s fully embraced the Silver and Black. Question is, barring a trade, will Jones finally be able to deliver on Sundays and not just the practice field?
