Timing Of Contract Extension Was Perfect For Raiders WR Hunter Renfrow

With OTAs nearly over for the Las Vegas Raiders, the organization decided the time was now to extend Hunter Renfrow. By doing so, the wide receiver expressed relief and gratitude for that decision.

On the most recent edition of Upon Further Review with Eddie Paskal, the former Clemson Tiger sat down to discuss several aspects of his recent contract extension. Renfrow elaborated a bit on the timing of everything.

“That was a big part of it, was trying to just get it done. This is a good month to kind of reflect and, you know, I didn’t want to be thinking about contracts. I’d rather be thinking about the season.”

Hunter Renfrow and the Raiders are ready to focus on the season

Renfrow will be entering his fourth year in Silver and Black while playing for his second head coach, Josh McDaniels. In retrospect, the journey hasn’t been easy for Renfrow. It seems that from the outset of his professional career, he was consistently thrust into a pivotal role. Take his rookie year, for example. Once the Antonio Brown fiasco took place, Renfrow instantly became one of the top receivers out of necessity. Once Henry Ruggs III went to prison in the middle of last season, Renfrow was once again asked to step up, and that’s exactly what he did. Through it all, Renfrow has remained poised and has emerged as one of the most reliable weapons on the Raiders.

With a new coach and system now in place, Renfrow knows there’s much work to do with his extension now out of the way and his future secure.

“You know what we need to do to win games is to take that next step. We’ve really just grown; we’ve been on a journey the last three years since I’ve been here. But with coach McDaniels and the new staff coming in, [that] kind of brings different elements, so laying the foundation with that and just kind of visualizing the season.”

The Raiders are certainly on the right path after returning to the playoffs last season. Despite the overhaul that the coaching staff went through, the Raiders have placed themselves in the thick of things following this offseason. Not only did they make some key additions, such as Davante Adams, but by securing Renfrow, the foundation is looking good. As far as getting everything on paper, Renfrow is relieved that part is done, and he can focus on what really matters: getting ready for training camp next month.

“Glad to get it done. Very thankful and appreciative but it’s [going to] be a fun month getting ready.”
