Raiders’ Only Nation Podcast: MetLife Miracle

The Las Vegas Raiders found a formidable foe in the winless New York Jets this week. Instead of suffering a tough loss, Derek Carr led a comeback victory with only five seconds left on the clock.

A Carr Bomb Goes off in New York

The Raiders were expected to soundly defeat the then 0-11 Jets. However, they made it more difficult than it was and ended up taking the game down to the wire. With five seconds left on the clock, Carr threw a perfect 46-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Henry Ruggs III. The quarterback had three passing touchdowns on the day and added one on the ground.

The final scoring play was controversial because Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams sent a cover 0 blitz instead of protecting the secondary. To add insult to the injury, the ‘Gang Green’ gave Williams the pink slip the next morning.

Winning against the odds

This game marked the first time in 30 years that the Raiders won after starting the last drive in the final minute while trailing their opponent. The win also became Carr’s 19th fourth-quarter comeback victory since 2015. Keep in mind no quarterback has more in that timespan.

The Silver and Black held off the Jets despite being down several players. Running back Josh Jacobs, safety Jonathan Abram and right guard Trent Brown were inactive for the matchup. Cornerback Damon Arnette left with concussion symptoms early in the game which left the defensive backfield open for attack.

Sizing up the Raiders battle ahead

Looking forward, the Raiders will be playing the Indianapolis Colts this Sunday. While the Colts have a strong defense, their offensive leader, quarterback Phillip Rivers, is battling a severe case of turf toe. The hosts are once again split on who they see winning the game.

Wrapping up the episode, we hear about a player that literally shattered the goalpost on their first day with the Raiders. In the final segment, we hear about a current Raider player who is making a difference in a hurricane ravished country.
