Various media outlets including Vic Carucci of  reported earlier today that the Oakland Raiders signed former Buffalo Bill’s first round pick quarterback E.J. Manuel to a deal which could possibly signal the end of Matt McGloin’s days in Silver and Black.

It’s no secret the Raiders were in need of an upgrade to Derek Carr’s backup after the disaster that McGloin had in his short-lived starting stint at the end of last season, and Connor Cook despite showing some promise made it clear he wasn’t ready to pick up the starting mantle if need be.

Manuel will benefit from a change of scenery and Oakland could prove to be an opportunity to learn and study behind one of the best quarterbacks in the league right now without carrying the load of an entire franchise.

The reaction on Twitter was relatively positive as this could be a smart move for both Manuel and the Raiders.

While this isn’t a “splash” signing by any means it’s another smart move by general manager Reggie McKenzie as he addresses another need which was having a veteran quarterback with some potential upside.
