Raiders QB E.J. Manuel looks for forward to helping team win

The Oakland Raiders’ playoff hopes were dashed with Derek Carr’s injury, and the lack of quarterback depth was one of the major reasons, but newcomer E.J. Manuel is here to prevent that from happening again.

Eddie Paskal via Raiders.com shared Manuel’s thoughts on his decision and what he envisions for his new team.

“For me, it was two things, obviously the opportunity to go somewhere and just help the team be better, and then the second thing was going to a team that had an opportunity to win,” said Manuel. “That was big for me. My time in Buffalo, we were always kind of at the cusp of being a really good team, and getting the chance to make the playoffs, we just didn’t do it, but this team I think is great.” -E.J. While many see Connor Cook as the backup moving forward, Manuel makes it clear he’s here to compete and win as he elaborated further in the interview:

“I know here, it’s going to be an open competition as far as the backup for Derek, and I’m just really looking forward to doing my part,” Manuel said. “However I can help this team win is what I’m looking forward to doing.”

Its obvious Manuel plans to take full of the opportunity that he’s been presented with and will be interesting to see once training camp begins just what kind of competition brews between the backups.
