Raiders safeties coach Brent Vieselmeyer had high praise for rookie Gareon Conley in an interview shared via Twitter by Sports Illustrated earlier today.
Raiders’ coaching staff has high praise for rookie Conley
It’s no secret the Raiders needed help at defensive back, so general manager Reggie McKenzie moved quickly to plug the holes. Drafting the Ohio State cornerback was initially met with some “mixed reactions” due to some off-field concerns. Yet and despite those concerns, Conley is quickly getting acclimated to the NFL and the coaching staff is recognizing his potential.

“Great learner, great feet, and man can he cover; he’s a great football player”
-Coach Vieselmeyer on Conley
The buzz is certainly picking up in camp as Conley is surrounded by great talents such as fellow rookie Obi Melifonwu and other standouts such as Karl Joseph and David Amerson.
The coach also shared some praise for the job McKenzie did in the draft and what the Raiders have done as a whole recently:
“We just do a good job with doing our homework” and “Reggie McKenzie knows what kind of people they are [the players]”
-Coach Vieselmeyer on McKenzie’s job
I’m sure Raider Nation shares the sentiments of the coach and looks forward to seeing this revamped defense take the field and hopefully, dominate opposing offenses. However, don’t forget about the inexperience from these rookies will play a part too. Their lack of familiarity at the NFL level will show itself, sooner or later.
