Khalil Mack is once again rewarded for his “Commitment to Excellence”
Pro Football Focus named the remaining ten players in their “Top 50” list on Thursday. Just like the rest of the world, they recognized the brilliance of Oakland Raiders’ linebacker Khalil Mack.
Mack’s stats last season alone (11 sacks, 54 tackles, and five forced fumbles) warrant this well-deserved recognition and if the current trend continues then he’ll find himself ranked higher next season.
A closer look
Mack was ranked just behind quarterback Aaron Rodgers, taking the 6th spot in the group of upper echelon NFL talent. Instead of valuing last season’s success alone, the site’s rankings instead were a projection for the upcoming year.

Mack saw the 3rd highest spot for defense on the list. Â Though coming behind J.J. Watt (2) and Aaron Donald (1), he did edge out AFC West rivals Von Miller (7) and Joey Bosa (13).
After winning Defensive Player of the Year last season, the argument can absolutely be made for Mack as the top defender in football. Time and time again, the linebacker bailed out a downright bad defense and sealed Raider wins as teams marched late (See: Newton, Cam).

With so much effort going into the secondary by way of Gareon Conley and Obi Melifonwu this offseason, Mack’s needle will only move further. Â That’s not including a better acclimated Sean Smith and healthy Karl Joseph. Â NFL offensive tackles beware; you’ve been officially put on notice.
