Degeneration R: Picking the Lines NFL Week 2

Week 1 records

Rory: 7-8-1    Chris: 6-9-1

Year to date record:

Rory: 7-8-1    Chris: 6-9-1

These lines are from the Bovada sportsbook as of 9/12/2018.

Bal @ Cin +1.5

Rory: Trusting Joe Flacco is always dangerous. Cincy is better so getting points is a bonus.

Chris: I don’t think we saw the real Ravens last week as they played the lowly Bills, I think this is a close one that favors the home team, give me the Bengals.

Ind @ Was -6

Rory: The Colts had a decent showing in week 1, but the Skins are in a rhythm already with Smith at quarterback. I’ll take the Skins but if it was 7 I wouldn’t.

Chris: Andrew Luck showed he’s back, but his presence isn’t enough. The Redskins have more talent across the board, Jordan Reed has a big game as Washington covers the spread.

Car @ Atl -6

Rory: Atlanta is at home on the fast track, but they are missing two key defenders. Norv will make this ugly and I do not trust Ryan enough to pass on 6 points. Carolina it is.

Chris: Falcons and Panthers each underperformed in week 1 and will look to bounce back, the question is, who will it be? Give me the Falcons, I think they will play well at home.

LAC @ Buf +7.5

Rory: Both teams took complete turds last week, but even without Bosa I cannot justify Josh Allen overcoming the Charger offense. I think Chargers outpace the Bills.

Chris: Last week I questioned if Nathan Peterman knew who his team was and it still looks like he’s unsure. Josh Allen is starting…I’ll take a risk and go with the Bills.

KC @ Pit -4

Rory: Sure the Chiefs boat raced the Chargers in week one, it’s not like they will repeat the performance. Regardless, getting more than a field goal away? Gimme the points and Chiefs.

Chris: The Chiefs came out with a bang in week one, I think they are a legit team. The Steelers tied to the Browns…I’ll leave it at that. Chiefs win a competitive game on the road.

Mia @ NYJ -3

Rory: I still don’t know what happened to Stafford and Co on Monday. This game will be ugly but the Jets sneak it out.

Chris: In a game that will determine who gets a better draft pick at seasons end the Dolphins win, which of course means the Jets win the actual game. Don’t get too excited Jets fans, you beat the Lions and possibly the Dolphins.

Phi @ Tb -3.5

Rory: The stunner of all stunners was Fitz Magic pulling a rabbit out of his nether regions. I don’t think that happens twice especially with a team that can rush the passer. Flyin Eagles.

Chris: It’s the battle of the backup quarterbacks! I’ll put my money on the Eagles.

Cle @ NO -10

Rory: O no I feel gross…. I just can’t eat those points…… Browns…..

I tried to call an upset with the Browns winning last week, maybe it’s this week. Give me the Browns baby!

Az @ LAR -13.5

Rory: The Rams have stupid uniforms. With that logic in mind, Rams cover the spread.

Chris: The Rams came out and did what a lot of people expected and the Cardinals didn’t show up till the end of the game in week one. I don’t think Arizona wins, but the Rams don’t cover the spread.

Det @ SF -6

Rory: San Fran had a ton of mistakes on offense last week. With Goodwin not a certainty and the Niners D not being overwhelming, I like the points here. Lions it is.

Lions got destroyed by the Jets. The Niners lost a competitive game to the Vikings. I think the Niners are a safe bet here.

NE @ Jac +3

Rory: Betting against Brady and Bill is for suckas and I ain’t no sucka. Flying Elvises strike again.

AFC Championship preview? Maybe not. I think this one comes down to quarterbacks so that means the I’m taking the Pats.

Oak @ Den -6

Rory: There were a lot of mistakes by the Raider coaching staff and players. Ultimately, this Bronco offense does not scare me and I think the offense is more consistently balanced. Plus Raiders are getting points.

Chris: The Raiders looked solid on their first offensive possession, then their play dwindled down and they got shut out in the second half. Sorry Raider Nation, but the realistic side of me says the Broncos cover the spread with ease here.

NYG @ Dal -3

Rory: This game has stupid ending written all over it. It should probably be run-tastic but ultimately the Giants have more playmakers.

Chris: I think the Giants march into Dallas and beat the Cowboys by 3. Saquan Barkley has, as President Trump would say, a ‘YUGE’ game.

Sea @ Chi -3.5

Rory: Chicago is not being favored for any good reason. Although the defense turned up early on and Mack will see more of the field, I have no faith in the Bears. Seattle wins.

Chris: Bears turned into cubs on Sunday Night, and that’s in no reference to the baseball team. After a fierce start to the game, Khalil Mack and company were nowhere to found as Aaron Rodgers picked them apart. Seattle nearly beat the Broncos in Denver, I’ll take the Seahawks by 6.

Points of Disagreement: Car @ Atl, LAC @ Buf, Az @ LAR, Det @ SF, Oak @ Den
