The spreads used for this week are as of Tuesday October 16th.
Records Year to Date:
The belt is so far around Rory’s waist, but Chris made up some big ground with a solid week beating Rory straight up.
Rory: 41-47-5
Chris: 39-49-5
Records Week 5:
Rory: 6-8-1
Chris: 8-6-1
Den @ AZ +2
Rory: Ultimately the Broncos have enough on defense to make any rookie have a rough day. I am not sure I trust this offense at all but they should win a close-ish game and cover.
Chris: I think this is the week the Cardinals are able to play a consistent four quarters. With home field this week, I see Arizona covering the spread here.
Ten @ LAC -7
Rory: Phillip Rivers should definitely lead the Chargers to a win, but I do think the Titan offense is fiesty enough to keep it close. Getting 7 points is a number that is hard to pass up.
Chris: The Titans have had a strong defensive showing thus far, but I think the Chargers are one of the better teams in the NFL that not many are talking about. I got Los Angeles blowing out the Titans this week.
Hou @ Jac -5
Rory: Talk about a bit of an ugly win streak for the Texans. Jacksonville has been beat down recently and although I do not think the Texans will stick it to them, anything more than a field goal is too many points.
Chris: I think the Texans winning streak continues this week in a key divisional matchup. The main thing holding the Jaguars is Blake Bortles. As long as he’s the quarterback, I can’t confidently pick them.
Cle @ TB -3
Rory: I feel dirty but this Buccaneer defense cannot be trusted. Baker Mayfield might just do enough to squeak out a Browns win
Chris: Despite losing last week, the Buccaneers showed they still can put up points. I see this trend continuing this week as the Browns come to town. I got the Bucs covering the spread.
Car @ Phi -5
Rory: Another in a long line of games this week where I just do not trust the favorite to cover the line. The Panthers should make this interesting.
Chris: The Eagles were able to put it all together last week as they dismantled the Giants. As they continue to develop continuity with Carson Wentz back from injury, they should be a force in the NFC once again.
Min @ NYJ +4
Rory: Rookie quarterback versus a stacked defense and less than a touchdown to cover…. Vikings it is.
Chris: I feel like this is a huge trap game. The Jets have played some amazing football at times, while also putting on performances that leave you scratching your head. It’s hard to determine what we will see this week. I have more confidence in Minnesota, so I’ll pick the Vikings to cover here.
Ne @ Chi +4
Rory: There is a small chance that Mack completely dominates this game and ruins a cover. I will take my chances with Tom Brady and the Patriots but I wish it was three or less.
Chris: The Patriots will walk all over the Bears defense. It’s a bold prediction, but it will happen. Brady will toss four touchdowns and the Pats cover with ease.
Buf @ Ind -7.5
Rory: Buffalo is bad even with Josh Allen. Playing a quarterback who they just signed two weeks ago even against a bad defense like the Colts is a bad idea. I hate eating this much chalk with Indy, but at least there is Andrew Luck.
Chris: I would have picked the Colts even if Josh Allen was playing for the Bills. With no Allen and the either Nathan Peterman or Derek Anderson playing, I think the Colts defense has a strong showing to push them to victory.
Det @ Mia +2.5
Rory: Detroit on the road is always a tough call to back. Miami is also inconsistent but they are a home dog so I will take it.
Chris: I feel like Miami is getting no love! They continue to grind out wins, even with Brock Osweiler starting at quarterback. I think Brock leads them to victory once again.
NO @ Bal -2
Rory: For whatever reason the Saints have been atrocious when they are outside the dome. With precise special teams play the Ravens should sneak a win out on a last second field goal.
Chris: Drew Brees is 0-4 all-time against the Ravens and playing outside the comfort of a dome, I think the Ravens defense slows down their potent offensive attack. I’ll take the Ravens.
Dal @ Was -1.5
Rory: Cowboys…because… Van Der Esch…. Or just a gut feeling.
Chris: The Cowboys and Redskins have both had very high and very low moments this season. This is a huge divisional game that may end up holding significant playoff implications. I’ll pick the Redskins to cover simply based on home field advantage.
LAR @ SF +9.5
Rory: It is so gross needing to eat nearly 10 points. CJ Beathard played his heart out but I do not think this will be close. Rams smash them.
Chris: You’d have to be a 49’er fan in order to have them covering the spread against the Rams. Not much to say other than the Rams are the most dangerous team in the NFL right now.
Cin @ KC -6.5
Rory: You never bet against the Chiefs at home.
Chris: I think the Bengals will be looking to bounce back after a disappointing last-second loss to the Steelers last week. It won’t be an easy task, but I think they get the job done to at least cover the speak against the Chiefs.
NYG @ ATL -6.5
Rory: If the Giants could ever figure out how to get their offense going, this could be an epic shootout. Since they probably will not, the Falcons will just tear the Giants apart.
Chris:The Falcons have started to put things together while the Giants seem to keep falling apart. This one ends in a blowout with the Falcons winning.
Where we disagree: Den @ AZ +2, Ten @ LAC -7, Cle @ TB -3, Car @ Phi -5, Dal @ Was -1.5, Cin @ KC -6.5
