Since the Oakland Raiders signed him in 2015, center Rodney Hudson has been an anchor and foundational to the offense.
Despite the revolving door at offensive coordinator since Hudson signed with the Raiders in 2015, he continues to be a rock for quarterback Derek Carr and has also notched two Pro Bowls along the way.
Rodney Hudson Continues To Be An Anchor For The Raiders
Just looking at his stats alone, there’s no reason to be believe he won’t continue to be an offensive captain during head coach Jon Gruden’s regime. Pro Football Focus recently shared some eyebrow-raising information, such as the fact that Hudson has only allowed two sacks and 27 total pressures in 2,530 pass block snaps since 2015. One word comes to mind while seeing that: Domination.

Since former Oakland’s general manager Reggie McKenzie brought Hudson to the Raiders, PFF has ranked Hudson as the top-graded pass blocking player amongst qualifying centers. Even though McKenzie is no longer with Oakland, signing Hudson will always be one of his crowning achievements. The Pro Bowler even outlasted the man who signed him. That’s the definition of a foundational piece.
One noteworthy stat that might also jump out is Hudson’s pass blocking grades in previous years, 89.8 in 2016 and 91.1 in 2017. Also, and in spite of the much-maligned scheme change under offensive line coach Tom Cable, Hudson finished with a grade of 90.8 last year. Safe to say that “Carr’s insurance” isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
