Derek Carr

Has Derek Carr Done Enough To Prove He’s QB Of The Future?

Since the near-MVP 2016 season, Derek Carr has been bombarded with criticism surrounding his performance but in Year 2 under Jon Gruden, it seems he has turned the corner.

Here at the Raider Ramble we recently asked Raider Nation via our Twitter account to share their thoughts on this debate.

Such heated division amongst the fans hadn’t been seen since the Las Vegas relocation was made official. No one can deny 2016 was a breakthrough year for the Oakland Raiders but due to several factors, the wheels fell off and the team spiraled thereafter. All the while Derek Carr was dubbed “Captain Checkdown” by the fans as many cried for a change at quarterback during what seemed like an eternal debate.

But what does Raider Nation feel now that Carr seems to be thriving in his second season under Jon Gruden? Let’s take a look!

The wins are slowly piling up this season as Carr begins to flourish but let’s not forget the luxury he’s had in the form of rookie Josh Jacobs who has been a difference-maker already. The offensive line has also been crucial in Carr regaining his 2016 self, and more impressively, he’s doing it with a revolving door at wide receiver.

Maurice Moton of Bleacher Report and Silver & Black Today summed it best as far as how Carr will be perceived moving forward. Basically, if the Raiders win a playoff game then most of the criticism will finally fade, however, there’s a chance no matter what Carr does, there will be those that will continue to push their agenda.
