Right or wrong, it seems Raider Nation wants nothing to do with one of the latest free agents to hit the market. The now former Carolina Panthers quarterback (Cam Newton) is sure to draw interest league wide, but are the Raiders suitors as well?
Many would think the Raiders are set at quarterback for the foreseeable future. After all, they still have Derek Carr and brought in Marcus Mariota. Logical thinking says Newton would be out of the question, but if you ask certain odds makers, they’re not necessarily out of the race.
What are the odds of Cam Newton coming to the Raiders?
Via Yahoo! Sports, Frank Schwab reported that BetMGM actually has the Raiders as a +2500 longshot to land Newton. Schwab elaborated on this notion a little further:
“The Raiders signed Marcus Mariota, but Mariota can back up Newton just as well as he can back up Derek Carr. If the Raiders think Newton is an upgrade, he would also be a huge star in the new Las Vegas market, checking two boxes. Let’s keep them in mind.”
Well that’s certainly something interesting to consider moving forward. However, what do fans think?
Raider Nation Sounds Off
Many fans ardently refused the notion that the Raiders would entertain Newton. And rightfully so, injuries have taken a toll on him and the team recently picked up Mariota.

Via the Raider Ramble Instagram account, we put the matter up for debate and the responses didn’t disappoint.
“Cam’s ego wouldn’t mesh with Gruden’s coaching style.”
“Cam ain’t worth a damn”
“He’s a joke”
“Don’t even think about bringing this guy in”
Raider Nation didn’t hold back with their responses as you can see. The notion that Cam wouldn’t mesh with head coach Jon Gruden is very interesting and entertaining to say the least. Newton’s reactions to Gruden on the sidelines would certainly be different than from what fans have seen when compared to Carr. We’ll see what happens between now and the NFL draft.
