As of the publishing of this article, Derek Carr is the starting quarterback for the Las Vegas Raiders. However, there are already some odds Marcus Mariota will beat him out by Week 1 of the 2020 NFL season.
Assuming there are no more transactions related to the quarterback position, and if the team refrains from drafting one, all signs point to Carr remaining the incumbent. Let’s not forget it’s only April and even though it’s too soon to forecast any type of quarterback battle, it’s never too early for the gamblers.

What about those odds regarding Marcus Mariota
The Draft Kings sports book released the odds of which quarterback will be starting in Week 1. Carr still has the highest odds at -500.As for Mariota, he currently has +350 odds. For those folks that might not be into gambling, Kevin Wade of 247 Sports summed it up, “… a $100 dollar bet would pay out of a total of $450 if Mariota is the starter in Week 1.”
The most ardent Carr supporters refuse to believe there will be a quarterback battle, and this was enforced further after Mariota had nothing but praise for the incumbent. Of course, this is what you would expect from a professional. Mariota isn’t going into a new home to start trouble after all. Mariota’s contract, however, is laced with incentives, and interestingly enough, he’s going to make almost as much as Teddy Bridgewater, who will be starting right out of the gate for his new team, the Carolina Panthers.
With so much uncertainty in the sports world because of the current pandemic, a lot can happen between now and Week 1 assuming there will even be football this year. For those that believe Carr’s days are numbered, let’s see who puts their money where their mouth is.
