Raiders Draft: Kyle Dugger Is A 3rd Round Sleeper

The majority of the Las Vegas Raiders draft discussions have centered around the first round, where fans and analysts alike anticipate a blockbuster wide receiver or quarterback selection. However, the third round deserves some attention because of the three third round picks the Silver and Black hold.

Here is a sleeper the Raiders should have on short dial on Day 3.

Lenoir-Rhyne University?

If you’ve never heard of Lenore-Ryhne University, it’s fine because neither had I, but a name that you should keep in mind for the upcoming 2020 NFL Draft is Kyle Dugger, a safety from the small Division II university situated in North Carolina. He, standing at 6’1″ and 217 pounds, is an absolute wrecking ball in the secondary. While he comes from a small school and didn’t compete in the Big 10 or PAC 12, He logged in a respectable senior year with 31 total tackles, two interceptions, and four passes defensed. He can also be a punt returner, averaging 17.2 yards per return and two touchdowns in his college career.

Raiders Draft: Kyle Dugger?

Dugger managed to obtain an invite to the NFL Combine and despite his size, he recorded a 4.49 40 yard dash and a vertical jump of 42.0 inches. He turned heads as scouts saw a freak athlete with a powerful frame emerging from a small school that normally would not be on their radar. While Dugger is projected to go on the second round of the draft, it is very likely the strong safety could fall to the Raiders in the third round. While many of you are still clamoring for another cornerback to compliment Mullen, that should be taken care of in the first round.

Dugger is too intriguing to pass up as a middle of the draft signing who can also provide some competition in the Raiders secondary. He can learn from the veterans and provide a solid backup safety the team can rely on. While Dugger hasn’t faced the elite competition most of his peers have in their college experience he would be thrown into the fire quickly which would bring him up to speed.

Considering the Raiders secondary is seeing many changes, Dugger would be a perfect addition to the Las Vegas squad.
