Is Raiders C Rodney Hudson the NFL’s Best Center?

The Las Vegas Raiders offensive line has consistently been a solid unit. The biggest reason is their anchor at center, Rodney Hudson.

Quarterback Derek Carr has had good protection for his entire career, and that is partly due to one man. Since joining the Raiders in 2015, Hudson has been a three-time Pro Bowler and was a second-team All-Pro last year. When it comes to Hudson’s game during his Raiders tenure, it’s been one of the most consistent and cleanest. In his five years with the team, Hudson has only been flagged six times for holding and nine for false starts. During last year’s campaign, he only had three total penalties along with a 71.0 overall grade per Pro Football Focus.

In addition, PFF also praised Hudson with some accolades and provided some eye-popping stats. This praise serves to help make the case that the former Florida State Seminole is the NFL’s best center.

Hudson found himself amongst some excellent company as PFF placed him on the All-Decade Pass-Blocking offensive line. His 1.3% pressure rate allowed in pass-blocking was the best in a group featuring Josh Sitton and Marshal Yanda.

Since 2010, Hudson has had five seasons where he was the highest-graded pass-blocking center in the NFL. As the Raiders prepare to have their inaugural season in Las Vegas, they can breathe a sigh of relief knowing the heart of their offensive line is set for the foreseeable future.
