Only Nation Podcast: Raiders 2020 Training Camp Has Arrived

After much uncertainty, the Las Vegas Raiders will kick off training camp at the new Intermountain Healthcare Performance Center.

Changes to the regular season are coming amid the pandemic

In the latest The Only Nation Podcast episode, the crew addresses several topics the Raiders are currently facing. Last week, the NFL and NFLPA came to a health and safety agreement. This allowed training camp to start as scheduled on July 28th. All players reported for COVID-19 testing to kick off the occasion. Rookies reported a bit earlier with all seven of their draft picks signing a few days before veterans reported.

There seems to be plenty of dissension among fans regarding the players insisting on the strict health and safety guideline. However, the amendments the league and the union compromised on address issues beyond just those parameters. The recent amendments pave the way for 16-man practice squads this season. Also, it opens the possibility of the salary cap decreasing to a $175 million-floor next year. Similarly, the agreements give players an out if they decide to skip the 2020 season as either high-risk or voluntary opt outs. There won’t be any preseason games in 2020. Finally, all training camp rosters must be reduced to 80 by August 16th.

Make sure you stay till the end for a Terry Bradshaw anecdote

On top of the discussion of current NFL issues, T3RaiderFax brings up some normal football topics later on in the show. He talks about a couple of Raiders running backs, safety Johnathan Abram returning to the lineup and calls for the end to the Nathan Peterman experiment. In the “Homer Did You Know” segment he tells the story of how Steelers quarterback Terry Bradshaw almost joined the Raiders in his rookie season. The show finally wraps with a “Heidi’s Heroes” about a repeat honoree who plans to help homeless dogs when he signs his next contract.
