Raiders GM Mike Mayock Still Not Used To Vegas Heat

While moving to Las Vegas has provided the Raiders with a brand new state of the art stadium, there’s been one downside: the scorching heat.

Anyone that’s visited Sin City knows the heat is no joke, especially in the middle of summer. Getting accustomed to such a drastic weather change was going to be a challenge. Going from the beautiful Bay Area to the sweltering Nevada desert has proven to be a test for general manager Mike Mayock.

Just how much of a change is it for Mayock and the Raiders? Compare Wednesday’s forecast of 106 degrees in Las Vegas to 67 in Alameda, that’s a night and day difference. Like with anything in life, time fixes everything, or rather it will let you get used to anything. Unfortunately, that doesn’t make things easier for Raiders brass.

Can’t Handle The Heat?

Recently Peter King of Football Morning in America shed light on Mayock’s “heat” troubles.

“I’ve been all over the country, obviously, and I’ve been hot, But this is pretty hard to get used to. Jon wants to practice outside some. The good thing for us is, we’ve got three alternatives for practice—an outdoor grass field, an indoor [FieldTurf] field with one-and-a-half fields, and a climate-controlled stadium. When we’re outside, Jon wants to be off the field by 10 a.m.”

Obviously, the heat is a challenge for everyone with the Raiders, head coach Jon Gruden’s no exception as he’s acclimating too. Being off the field by 10 AM is smart but also a far cry from the comforts of the Bay Area’s weather. The luxury of brand new indoor facilities will ease some of the discomfort as training camp continues for the Silver and Black.
