Can Tyrell Williams leave the injury bug behind?
After the Raiders’ season was altered thanks to the Antonio Brown debacle, Williams became the de-facto number one receiver. Despite a hot start early on, Williams fell victim to plantar fasciitis that derailed his 2019 campaign. He certainly showed he has talent and can score, hence why he’ll be featured in this year’s offense.
Pro Football Focus graded Williams at 66.5 overall for last season based on 64 targets, 42 receptions, and six touchdowns. Not terrible but definitely not number one receiver-type numbers. He’ll have a chance to rebound in 2020 as he’ll be surrounded by Hunter Renfrow and Henry Ruggs III, less focus on him by opposing defenses. Williams will have no time to relax, however, as rookie Bryan Edwards will be breathing down his neck for snaps of his own.
All three Raiders played have something to prove in 2020 for different reasons. Miller is looking to show that he’s the long-term left tackle for the Silver and Black. Waller is looking to prove he’s the Raiders’ next star at tight end and more than just a one-hit one-year wonder. As for Williams, he’s just looking to stay on the team that suddenly finds itself with a bevy of wide receivers, though his experience will certainly give him an edge this year.
