The biggest conversation about the Las Vegas Raiders surrounds defensive coordinator Paul Guenther and his status for 2021.
The New York Jets nearly dealt a season-ending blow to the Silver and Black Sunday. Had it not been for last-second heroics by Raiders quarterback Derek Carr, this article might be addressing Guenther getting fired. However, Jon Gruden’s squad won and Guenther remains employed, much to the chagrin of many in Raider Nation. A decision regarding Guenther probably won’t be made until after the season by Gruden. As we all know, Gruden and Guenther are friends which will definitely play a role in what happens moving forward.
As far as possibilities, fans have many ideas on who should replace Guenther. Here at the Raider Ramble, we posed the question to our readers regarding now-former Jets defensive coordinator Gregg Williams. Let’s take a look at what Raider Nation had to say.
If the #Raiders fire DC Paul Guenther at the end of the season, should they pursue Gregg Williams? 🤔

Would Williams Be An Upgrade Over Guenther at Raiders DC?
Strictly speaking by what both defenses have accomplished, Williams would be an upgrade. Say what you will about the Jets but they have one of the better run defenses in the NFL. They’re the ninth-ranked run defense and have given up 1,293 yards on the ground in 2020. Unfortunately, their pass defense is 31st this season, something the Raiders need to upgrade next year. Still though, you have to wonder what a defense would look like with Williams, there would certainly be a lot more blitzing. Prior to Sunday’s game, Williams had called 307 blitzes while Guenther had dialed up 129 in the same span.
Again though, this is all speculation on our part but take a look at what our readers commented.
Raheem Morris or Khris Richard would be my preferred hires.

Bring back Derrick Ansley for DC next season

Give me Wade Phillips immediately

As you can see, Raider Nation has their own thoughts on who should be defensive coordinator and it seems Williams isn’t exactly getting a ringing endorsement.
