On Monday morning, Las Vegas Raiders running back Josh Jacobs was arrested on a DUI charge hours after the team’s season finale against the Denver Broncos. He’s fortunately ok, but certain details remain unknown and it’s too soon to come up with any meaningful conclusions.
What happened to Raiders running back Josh Jacobs?
Las Vegas Metro Police arrested Jacobs on suspicion of driving while impaired early Monday morning. They responded to a crash near the McCarran Airport Connector and later took him to a local hospital due to minor injures. They then transported him to the Clark County Detention Center and later booked him for DUI.
Jacobs’ lawyers later released a statement on his behalf.
‘No complaint has been filed against our client and there are no blood test results to support a suggestion of impairment,” Jacobs’ attorneys David Z. Chesnoff and Richard A. Schonfeld said in a statement. “We intend to enter a not guilty plea on behalf of Mr. Jacobs if he is ever charged.’
Raiders head coach Jon Gruden said in a sit-down with the local media the organization is aware of the situation and they take this kind of matter seriously. He later added he had no further comments and mentioned Jacobs was ok.

It’s too early to jump to conclusions
First, this has nothing to do with Jacobs as a player. The running back is one of the Raiders’ best players and his crash has no relationship to his performance on the football field. You also have to factor in that he didn’t hurt himself nor others.
At this point, it’s too early to jump to conclusions. He may have been drunk but there is no evidence of him being impaired yet. Until then, his innocent until proven guilty. There’s a video of him on social media where you can see him at a party the night before the accident.

Some thoughts about the incident
The biggest takeaway from the situation is that nobody got hurt. If anything, this situation didn’t affect anybody other than Jacobs. He crashed his luxury car and damaged property that wasn’t his, so this is going to affect him financially. His actions aren’t commendable, and but there isn’t much to get angry about. He made a mistake, just like plenty of young adults, but it didn’t have any severe consequences.
On the other hand, if he’s later charged and found guilty, he should be held accountable. In the meantime, there’s not much to do other than letting the legal process run its course. This may end up being too much ado about nothing or a big deal. However, there’s no way to know how things are going to play out.
