The Las Vegas Raiders are in for a long offseason. While they have to make plenty of financial decisions in regard to some key players, they have gone ahead and brought back ten players on reserve/future contracts. One of them was linebacker Javin White.
The Raiders have already started making roster moves
The Raiders announced they have signed White and nine other players to reserve/future contracts. The others are cornerback Keman Siverand, offensive tackle Kamaal Seymour, defensive tackle Niles Scott, linebacker James Onwualu, offensive lineman Erik Magnuson, offensive lineman Jaryd Jones-Smith, defensive end Gerri Green, kicker Dominik Eberle, tight end Nick Bowers and defensive back Rashaan Gaulden.
Looking at the list, the most meaningful signing was that of White. The UNLV alum signed with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent back in 2019. Even though he hardly played in the regular season, he had a strong training camp, which might’ve prompted the team to bring him back. Now that he’s signed to a reserve/future contract, teams won’t be able to sign him.

Javin White is a player to keep an eye on
The Raiders’ defense was among the worst ones in the league in 2020, ranking 25th in yards and 30th in points allowed. Former defensive coordinator Paul Guenther played a big role in the unit’s struggles. Nevertheless, most of the team’s free-agent additions in 2019 didn’t have much of an impact. While linebacker Nick Kwiatkoski was solid, the same can’t be said about Cory Littleton, who was a liability against both the pass and the run.
Most defenders will likely get a clean slate with a change of defensive coordinators. This could give White an opportunity to stand out and become a steady contributor in 2021. Although he had a strong training camp, he only played on one percent of the team’s total snaps on defense. Moreover, he was only active for four games this past season. Now that he’s got a reserve/future contract, he will have another chance to make a good impression on the Raiders’ new defensive staff.
