Raiders Go With WR CeeDee Lamb In 2020 Draft Redo

One season’s not an accurate scope to judge an NFL draft pick, however, Las Vegas Raiders rookie Henry Ruggs III was outperformed by fellow draftee CeeDee Lamb.

The Dallas Cowboys wide receiver had a valuable rookie campaign, overshadowing Ruggs’ efforts in Silver and Black. The Raiders’ brass had their pick of the litter in a crowded wide receiver class last April. In the end, they chose Ruggs due to his blazing speed and potential. Out of the top three prospects last year, he was arguably the least polished but his dashing speed was too much to pass up.

Bleacher Report recently looked back at last year’s draft and presented a scenario where the Raiders select Lamb over Ruggs.

Do the Raiders regret picking Ruggs over Lamb?

It’s probably too soon to make a definite statement but do doubt Lamb’s production would’ve been helpful to the Raiders. Ruggs’ speed changed the offense by adding another dimension with defenses having to account for him. Statistically, it was a different story as Ruggs ended his season with just 452 receiving yards. His ability to break open for big plays is undeniable so it was certainly a two-sided story as seen below.

However, it was clear that Raiders quarterback Derek Carr favored tight end Darren Waller and veteran receiver Nelson Agholor. Clearly, it will take time for Ruggs and ‘DC4′ to develop more chemistry as time goes on.

As for Lamb, he impressed despite Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott missing most of the 2020 season. His 935 receiving yards and five touchdowns would’ve looked good in Silver and Black, and even Ruggs’ biggest supporters can’t deny that. Let’s give the two stud wideouts at least two more years, then we’ll revisit this hot debate.
