Raiders: The Only Nation Podcast Goes Over Free-Agent Frenzy

This week’s episode covers all of the moves that the Las Vegas Raiders made during the first week of free agency.

The Raiders are giving the offensive line a makeover

We start off by discussing the surprising trade of center Rodney Hudson to the Arizona Cardinals. Hudson was the leader of the Raiders’ offensive line and his request to be released caught most of Raider Nation off guard. Andre James is now the front runner to take over the center position.

In addition to losing Hudson, the Raiders completed a last-second trade of right guard Gabe Jackson to the Seattle Seahawks. While the Silver and Black lost two starters on the offensive line, guard Richie Incognito announced that he will be returning to the team. Incognito had been released a couple of weeks earlier and is coming back on a cheaper contract.

On top of all the movement in the current offensive line, former tackle Donald Penn signed a ceremonial one-day contract in order to retire as a Raider.

Free Agent Additions

We also cover the addition of several key players to the Raiders. These additions include pass-rusher Yannick Ngakoue, wide receiver John Brown and running back Kenyan Drake. In spite of these signings, there remains a large hole in the Raiders’ defensive backfield. The only signing for those positions is an unimpressive re-signing of cornerback Nevin Lawson.

Episode Wrap Up

Later in the episode, we introduce a new segment, Homer’s Hammer. We have a quality discussion about the shortcomings of recent Silver and Black teams and their fans’ reaction to the adversity. We wrap up the episode with a multiple-choice history question and a new naming of a Raiders hero.
