Liam Eichenberg From Notre Dame’s A Nice Consolation Prize

Landing Cosmi would be nice for the Raiders but he could be gone in the early going of the second round. If that’s the case, Notre Dame’s Liam Eichenberg would be more than a good consolidation prize. Whether it’s Cosmi or Eichenberg, replacing Brown won’t be easy by any stretch. The biggest hurdle for Eichenberg will be the fact he was a starting left tackle for the Fighting Irish. The transition to the right won’t be automatic by means. Nevertheless like any offensive line prospect the Raiders draft, Cable’s mentoring will be crucial.

Coming in at six-foot-six and 302 pounds, this behemoth is similar to Cosmi in sheer size. Per PFF, Eichenberg posted a 89.9 in 2020, where he played 833 snaps. Another noteworthy stat, he was graded 90.1 in the run blocking department. Much like Cosmi, he could instantly help Las Vegas in that area. Kyle Crabbs of The Draft Network also believes Eichenberg’s biggest strength going into the NFL will be helping in the run game. He notes his ideal fit schematically will be a gap/power-heavy rushing offense with a featured focus on running off tackle.

Looking at both Cosmi and Eichenberg, the Raiders can’t go wrong with either prospect. If the team walks away with a premier pass rusher in the first round and one of these tackles in the second, that’ll be a home run for this organization.

  1. This is a historically deep year for tackles, and quality starting tackles are likely to be available as late as the third round. The front office should look closely at the various candidates and decide where they should be drafting the tackle. The second probably makes sense, as the Raiders have to have a starting tackle in this draft, and if they waited until the third an early run on tackles could be disastrous. I disagree about the soundness of the interior of the line. The coaching staff seems to believe in James, and he does have an experienced backup, but Good is a career backup and Incognito is ancient by NFL standards, and coming off a major injury. So drafting a guard by the end of 3 seems pretty likely.
