Raiders’ best and worst from 2019
The Silver and Black went with a safe pick and addressed a long-term concern at left tackle in 2018. A solid class in retrospect, the 2019 class, on the other hand, continues to be hotly contested. As far as grades go, Hill noted that defensive end Maxx Crosby received the highest grade possible at ‘A+’. There’s no contest in that year’s fourth-round class, Crosby is by far the best player to come out. That hope is that with Gus Bradley taking over the defense and Yannick Ngakoue’s signing, Crosby will reach another level.
Believe it or not, the worst player from this class might be a first-round defensive end Clelin Ferrell. In his defense, he did get awarded a ‘B+’ grade but it’s how bad the team missed on this selection that brings it down a notch. Considering the talent that was passed over and the fact Ferrell’s an excellent run-stopper means it’ll be hard for him to live up to that draft status.
That year’s draft class had another player worthy of an honorable mention, cornerback Trayvon Mullen. Receiving the same grade as Ferrell, Mullen has become the team’s best cornerback. While he figures to the top corner for the foreseeable future, he can still stand to improve and under Bradley and positional coach Ron Milus, this can happen.
