In this edition of The Only Nation Podcast, we cover some Las Vegas Raiders news and then dissect the preseason win against the Seattle Seahawks as we look to today’s matchup with the Los Angeles Rams.
The latest Raiders news
The news starts off with the revelation that general manager Mike Mayock had fought a short bout with COVID-19, but he has since recovered. Veteran tackle Sam Young retired from the offensive line. Running back Jalen Richard is now out with a foot injury with no timetable to return. Quarterback Marcus Mariota suffered a minor leg injury that kept him out of the Seahawks game.
In light of these roster holes developing, the Raiders signed a number of players, some of whom have already been cut by the team. As far as significant signings go, the Silver and Black reeled in veteran defensive tackle Gerald McCoy. Additionally, Las Vegas signed former Alabama running back Bo Scarbrough to compete for the third spot in the running back room.
First Win of the Season
Next, we discuss the Raiders’ preseason victory over the Seahawks. The first half of the game looked promising for the Silver and Black. However, to start the second half, the Raiders came out flat. While the third quarter was shaky, the Raiders pulled out the game at the end with a strong fourth quarter.
Some highlights of the Seahawks game include the Raiders committing only four penalties for 37 yards and winning the time of possession battle 40:37 to 19:23. The Silver and Black also out-gained the Seahawks 385 yards to 194 yards. Overall, for an opening preseason game, the Raiders dominated the Seahawks on their way to a 20-7 victory.
