Matt Corral is the prototypical NFL quarterback that scouts dream of each year…

When it comes to MVP caliber quarterbacks, Matt Corral from Ole Miss showcases it all.

Meanwhile, as a redshirt sophomore in 2020, Corral somewhat flew under the radar while ranking seventh in the FBS in passing yards (3,337) and touchdowns (29). In the same vein, the Ole Miss football program hasn’t per se been considered a ‘top‘ football program in the SEC in recent years. However, Corral has all the tools to change that narrative entering the 2021 season.

What makes Matt Corral stand out?

Most certainly, Corral possesses unique arm strength and accuracy that enables him to make all the throws. In addition, combine that with unshakable mental toughness; he and his team are never out of a game.

As you can see above, he is not afraid of letting his receivers make a play on the football in tight coverage. For instance, last season versus the Alabama Crimson Tide, Corral led one of the most impressive underdog performances that almost led his team to victory.

Above all, he is a player who does whatever it takes to win his team. In addition to his arm talent, his mobility and pocket awareness is exceptional. However, despite the great positives, there are a few drawbacks to his style of play.

What are some areas of improvement for Corral and what can we expect from him this season?

In other words, Corral is an aggressive signal-caller, and as a result, he makes some poor decisions.

For example, his decision-making will have to improve at the next level, but it’s reassuring that he can make every throw. On the other hand, he is still only 22 years old and is entering his junior season for the Ole Miss Rebels with a lot of football ahead of him. Subsequently, expect him to push his team for a potential Heisman Trophy award and, more importantly, win the SEC. Moreover, a player of his caliber has the means to take the world by storm no matter the circumstances. In conclusion, expect him to do everything in his power to solidify himself as the top quarterback in next year’s draft as well.
