The Las Vegas Raiders lost last week to the Cincinnati Bengals at Allegiant Stadium. We wonder if maybe it is time for the Raiders to start being the Grinch and try to spoil other teams’ seasons.
This week’s episode of The Only Nation Podcast recaps the Raiders’ loss to the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday. The defense did its job and kept the Silver and Black in the game through three quarters. Ultimately, the Bengals’ overwhelming amount of time of possession was too much for the defense, and the Bengals were able to pull away at the end.
Raiders quarterback Derek Carr led a Raiders team that had virtually no spark on offense. Carr was 19 of 27 for 215 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He also had a costly fumble that was lost at the wrong time of the game. Carr appeared to show a real lack of fire during the game, and it showed in his leadership, or lack thereof.
In addition to the offensive woes, the Raiders were flagged for seven penalties for 77 yards. The Bengals only committed one penalty for five yards. A lot of the Raiders’ penalties came at very inopportune times. Those penalties killed a great deal of momentum for the Silver and Black.
The Raiders now face a short week before they take on the Dallas Cowboys today. One key that we see to victory is generating turnovers and then turning them into touchdowns. Another key is more aggressive play calling for the offense and simply converting in the red zone. One host sees the Silver and Black winning the matchup, and the other sees the Cowboys coming out on top.
Next, we start to throw around the idea that the Raiders might be approaching a time in the season where they can play Grinch to other teams. While the season is not over, maybe trying to play spoiler to other teams’ playoff hopes will allow Las Vegas to come up with a victory and keep their own playoff hopes alive.
