Davante Adams, the recently acquired star wide receiver for the Las Vegas Raiders, learned of a terrible tragedy yesterday. Several news sources said that Adams’ cousin, Ralph Fields, was shot in East Palo Alto. Regrettably, Fields died on the way to a nearby hospital.

The tragic shooting took place during a youth softball tournament, as NBC Bay Area reported. Apparently, it was caught on camera via a cell phone as a child nearby recorded 30-plus shots being fired.
A relative of one of the children that were present during the shooting recalled the aftermath. In particular, how many of those kids felt following the shooting.
“Some of them would cry,” said Faauuga Talamo, a relative of one of the more than 30 children at the park at the time of the shooting. “I guess they didn’t expect anything like this to happen. It was a scary feeling for them.”
Local police reported that two additional victims of the shooting were able to transport themselves to the nearby firehouse. Then, they were transported to the hospital afterward. Sadly, investigators also commented that this tragedy appeared to have been premeditated.
“We’ve already stepped up our presence in the area with extra patrols,” interim East Palo Alto police Chief Jeff Liu said.
The attack comes on the eve of mass shootings taking place all over the country, once again bringing gun violence to the forefront and raising several ideological and political questions.
With all of that being said, our hearts and prayers go out to the Raiders’ receiver and his entire family during this tragedy.
