Hunter Renfrow, The Goat, receding hairline king, etc. The man has been a fan favorite since day one and has done some amazing things, and this year could be his best.
Following a tumultuous 2021 season for the Las Vegas Raiders organization, he shined through and was a pillar of consistency and stability. What to expect for 2022? Let’s find out.
Hunter Renfrow was the Raiders’ most reliable weapon in 2021
We’re all familiar with the term that’s become synonymous with the former Clemson Tiger, “Third and Renfrow.” It’s more than warranted considering his clutch play and importance to the Silver and Black’s offense. This past season, he lived up to the moniker once again. He totaled 103 receptions, 1,038 receiving yards, and nine touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.
His best three individual performances came during a stretch in which the Raiders went 1-2, though he shone despite the two losses. His best moment, though, was in Week 17 against the Indianapolis Colts, when he was falling down and made an amazing catch that put the Raiders in a position to win the game and keep their playoff hopes alive. Renfrow is the gift that just keeps giving, and following his extension this offseason, Raiders fans can continue to look forward to it.
With the trade for Davante Adams this offseason and Darren Waller fully healthy, we might see an even better season for Renfrow. His continuity with Derek Carr and his improvement every year have shown up, and if last season was any indication, he could feasibly have a monster year in Josh McDaniels’ offense. The organization clearly sees him as a core player and wasted no time in making sure he’s featured in their long-term plans. In a role that was similar to that of Wes Welker with the New England Patriots, we might yet have seen the best of Renfrow.
